Detailed Rules for Battery Maintenance
(Maintenance Rules For Valve-Regulated Sealed Lead Acid Battery UXL Series)

一、 Requirements for Battery Room

Battery is required to be set up away from places susceptible for suffering sparks, e.g., transformer, power switch and fuse. Safe distance is longer than 0.5m. Indoor temperature should be about 25℃. Battery should be free from direct sunlight. The room is required to be free from organic solvents and erosive gases. Surface and plate of the battery are required to keep clean and free of rust.
For telephone exchange use, independent room for battery is required.

Routine examinations include the following:
1. Terminal voltage
2. Detecting for loosing, heating and erosion (clean up in time to free from rust) in linking places.
3. Leaking and deforming at shell
4. Acid fog (frosting) around electrode pole and safe valve

二、 First-Time Use

Before use, it is not necessary to give the sealed battery an initial charge, except for a boost charge. The latter applies a method of current-limiting constant voltage charge. Charge voltage should abide by specifications in The Guide Book. In normal situation (storage time of battery is shorter than a half year at a temperature of 25℃), voltage and time for boost charge are as below:

Single-cell battery voltage (V)
Charge duration (H)
2.23
2~3天
2.30~2.33V
1~2天

Duration of charge varies depending on variable temperatures, e.g., under an ambient temperature of 10-20℃, duration of charge is required to be doubled, while under an ambient temperature higher than 25℃, duration is required to be curtailed.

三、Floating Charge Voltage

Under an ambient temperature of 20-29℃,average floating charge voltage is 2.23V each single-cell. Floating charge voltage varies subject to temperature scopes as following:

Ambient temperature(℃)
Floating charge voltage(V)
0~9
2.29
10~19
2.26
20~29
2.23
30~39
2.20

四、 Equalizing Charge Voltage

Yuasa Battery sets 2.30~2.33V/cell as its equalizing charge voltage. Detailed rules include the following:
1. One or more cells show a floating voltage lower than 2.18V/cell: after discharging 50% capacity, charge for 2-3 days under manual equalizing charge. If restoration is still unavailable, contact us.
2. When over 20% rated capacity has been discharged, automatic equalizing charge is needed.
3. Charge once under automatic equalizing charge every 10 weeks.
4. Time for automatic equalizing charge is 15h.

五、 Others

1. Once the battery has discharged, recharge is required to be done at once lest unable to restore capacity due to too-long interval.
2. Avoid over-big or over-small discharge current, and discharge voltage is required to be higher than final voltage of the battery lest over-deep discharge occurs.
3. Do not open battery's safe valve when it is in normal use, otherwise the battery will become less secure.
4. When assemble or disassemble the battery with series or parallel method, to avoid short circuit, tools must be of insulation materials, and linking bolt must be screwed tight.
5. Batteries with lower than 80% rated capacity should be replaced.
